The whiskey of this bottle(2005) is mainly based on malt made aged in Japanese cypress barrels called Japanese style barrels. Liquid color is a deep reddish amber color, releasing a fragrance resembling a calico's calyx (chara). It also features sweet and sour like fruit dried, rich flavor, smooth mouthfeel, length of finish.

Suntory used Japanese style barrel instead of European sherry barrel during World War II, after 20 years of war. Due to the influence of the war, it became difficult to import barrels from overseas such as Spain, so we made our barrels in Hokkaido and Mizunara in Tohoku.

Malt which was matured in Japanese-style barrels at the beginning, was shipped young because of its strong flavor. However, in the 1980s, it was revealed that the long-aged sake in a barrel that had not been shipped until then has a unique fragrance similar to a calamity.

In Suntory, this fragrance was evaluated as "the personality of Japanese whiskey that can not be achieved by Scotch", and in 1989 we launched the high-grade blended whiskey "Hibiki" which was based mainly on Japanese brewery. Later, we also use sake of Japanese barrels for various high class whiskeys, and those with high age are supposed to be rare.

The product was packed in a crystal glass bottle and engraved one by one with Yamazaki's written with brushstroke by sand blasting. Also cap covered with Japanese paper, tied with a golden string, and put it in an oak wooden box.
